Stopping Wasteful Spending: Your Tax Dollars, Well Spent
We’re tired of seeing our tax dollars wasted on projects that don’t serve residents. It’s time for responsible leadership and fiscal accountability in Commerce City.
Examples of Waste and Better Choices
Buffalo Run Restaurant Renovation… $12.5 Million?
The city has discussed a multimillion dollar remodel of the Buffalo Run clubhouse and Bison Grill. Before we pour money into banquet rooms and rooftop patios, we should ask: does this truly serve residents, or are there higher impact investments that benefit more people more often?
Better choice: prioritize parks, trails, and public spaces that serve families year round.
City Buildings Network Rewire… $500,000 for Cat‑6?
Gigabit‑capable Cat‑5e already meets most needs. Spending hundreds of thousands of dollars to swap cable with limited real world benefit is not value driven government.
$3M Council Chamber Remodel… A Vanity Project?
Rearranging seating so staff face the audience shouldn’t outrank road repairs, sidewalks, drainage, or code enforcement.
Better choice: invest first in core services that protect safety and property values.
A Better Way Forward
- Prioritize community needs infrastructure, safety, and essential services before aesthetic upgrades.
- Publish transparent budgets easy to read breakdowns of big projects so taxpayers can follow the money.
- Buy once, buy right focus on lifecycle value, not the flashiest proposal.
My Commitments
- No blank checks every major project must show clear value, alternatives considered, and measurable outcomes.
- Competitive bidding and performance clauses to protect taxpayers if vendors underdeliver.
- Quarterly spending updates so residents can see progress and hold us accountable.
